ENHANCED HIGH-RATE TREATMENT (EHRT) FACILITY
CINCINNATI, OH | LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
Working as a subconsultant to Dynotec, Inc. POD Design provided landscape architecture design services for this 7.5 acre Green Township parcel.
The enhanced high rate treatment (EHRT) facility, located at the Werk and Westbourne intersection, was designed to reduce, treat and disinfect neighborhood combined sewer and sanitary overflows during rainstorms and snow melts. Before the project was designed, there was major concern about health and environmental issues at this location, where wastewater odor and solid runoff discharged to the local creek. Any excess water during the overflow process enters into a screening system for trash and debris removal and then released into Schaible Creek. The facility was financed though Metropolitan Sewer District of Greater Cincinnati
Open panoramic views from the road to the facility are softened by a natural greenway of large and medium-sized trees and understory layers of grasses, shrubs, and perennials. Rows of an Arborvitae help buffer the perimeter where neighboring residences abut the property. On the newly built slopes, hydroseeded mix of native grasses with bare-rooted plants help minimize erosion.
